Mascara Trend

Heidi and I asked editorial and celebrity makeup artist, Brittany Gharring, to give us all pointers on the trend in clumpy mascara and how to do it just right. Brittany Gharring reports:

Get a fresher look with these pointers:

Clumpy mascara is all the rage right now, but it can quickly go from glam to drag in 5 seconds flat.

Start with applying it side to side right up against the lash line for ultimate thickness, then pull through to the ends once or twice but not too many coats on the ends or else they can get weighed down and fall flat. Keep the focus on the root of the lashes.

A Few Tricks:

*No curling after mascara. For instance, I had a girlfriend in high school have all of her eyelashes off after a month or two of her obsessive ritual.

*On last coat, hold wand on ends of lashes while closing your eye to curl (note: while still wet).

*Bottom lashes, if you've got them, FLAUNT EM! Best way to show these babies off is to apply the most at the root and then slide inward, you might look like twiggy if you get too much but this way gives the illusion of longer flirtier lashes!

*Don’t forget those corner lashes, the most important of them all.

*Shu Umera and Laura Mercier both make a lash curler that allows you to curl sections of your lashes, even those stubborn bottom ones.

*If you’re going out and have a set of lashes lying around, but dont want to look too made up, cut them in half and use them as corners. This will give you a natural look, people will wonder but won’t ask.

A few of my favorite brands are:

*Trish McEvoy's high impact teeny wand. It makes it so easy to add volume without bulk because it is a gel based formula. It doesn’t give you any smearing or dark five o'clock shadows and washes off easily.

*M.A.C.'s fiber rich mascara, super thick, does the thickening and building for you! You only need a coat or two, just focus on those corners..

*Dior show (best in show) this is the most fabulous for runway volume, but still clean. If your favorite mascara consistency is a month or two after you've bought it, then this one is for you and without all that nasty bacteria and germs, hooray!

*And for the latest! Introducing, FIBERWIG from Japan:

Imju is one of the leading cosmetic brands in Japan, known for creating innovative products. Their latest innovation, Fiberwig Mascara represents Imju's superior quality and hi-tech approach to cosmetics; a mascara that replicates the illusion of false eyelashes.comes with a tube of actual fibers you can sprinkle on the tips of your lashes for extra length and thickness...”
